You know those guys that stand on the street corner asking for spare change? They’re crowdfunding.
Maybe they’re crowdfunding their dinner, their drinking habit or simply pan handling… but what they’re doing in a ratty t-shirt and cardboard sign isn’t that different from what you’re doing on Kickstarter or Indiegogo. You’re begging for money.
Now we hope that when you launch your campaign, you’re strategic about it. You secure 30% of your initial contributions from your inner circle. Then you rely on your inner circle to share your campaign with their friends… then you have a very focused press and blogger list that will hopefully get you more coverage and more backers.
But still, your campaign is at least a 30-day marathon where you’re pestering folks for cash… and it can become uncomfortable.
You can’t just post “Give me money, more money, more money!” 10 times a day on your Facebook feed. If so, your friends will hide your account and no longer invite you to Friday happy hour.
So stop asking for money.
Ask for help. Ask for shares, retweets, likes. Give them easy, simple actions where they can help without pulling out their wallets.

- Know anyone who would like this? LINK HERE
- Who can help me find the next backer? LINK HERE
- We have 55 backers, who can help us get to 60 by the end of the night? LINK HERE
- Tell your friends about XXXX LINK HERE
- Woah! 75 backers! See what the buzz is about! LINK HERE
- We’re so close to selling out of XXX LINK HERE
